I believe the Cardinals not only lead the league in double plays, but double up the next team.

Welp. Carp has had lousy control of the fastball all game, so that was just a matter of time.

Jonny Gomes is an awful fielder.

When Tyler Greene asks himself why he has to go back to Memphis, swinging on 2-0 at a pitch at the ankles will be the answer.

That seems stupid. People buy MLB.com to watch teams they normally cant see. I wouldnt buy it because I can already watch them on dish every night. So why do they care if a guy in washington can watch a game thousands of miles away?

I kind of felt bad for Franklin when he got booed. He has played pretty good as a Cardinal. Then he comes in the game today and makes me feel alot less bad for him.

i didn't see it, but that's just the kind of mental mistake that he's been making that will get him sent back down. it's too bad, to, because i think i lot of us would like to see him succeed. we could sure use his speed. but i think descalso is gradually earning the spot as utility infielder. la russa will give the veteran punto every conceivable chance, of course. but so far descalso has the upper hand from among the young guys.

The MLB folks will tell you Fox pays a lot of money for the rights to show games on Saturday afternoons. We got Giants/Braves here yesterday. MLB has this bizarre notion that because the Braves once played in Boston, there's still a fan base for them here. When interleague play started, the Braves were the Red Sox' "territorial rival" and they played every year. The Braves barely had a fan base here to begin with (hence the move to Milwaukee), and they never played the Red Sox in the World Series, so I don't know how it became a rivalry in the '90s.
The Sunday blackouts are new. ESPN has exclusivity on Sunday nights after 8 p.m., but usually the only other team that schedules Sunday night games is Texas in the summer.

that must be it, artie, because my recollection of the error message was something like saturday games that begin after 1 and sunday games that begin after 5 are blocked out.

Once the summer starts, you'll have fewer conflicts on Saturdays, especially with NLC opposition. The only two teams that regularly appear on national TV are the Cards and the Cubs, though the Reds may be on more frequently this year. The other three teams almost play exclusively on Saturday nights.

also, the games are only blacked out in the usa. so as of thursday, it won't apply to me anymore.

more cheap beer observations:
Miller High Life pint cans. Mine is sort of like an updated Saint Pauli Girl; there's this vaguely mulatto babe in halter and shorts with a rack that could stop traffic. i guess it helps sell bad beer. probably works better than telling me it's made from yakima valley hops, at any rate.

I don't mind Miller. It wouldn't ever be my first choice, but I'd take it over Budweiser.

i used to keep alcohol around the house. then i turned 40 and came face-to-face with the prospect of living on soft money, with no secure employment for the rest of my life, and now i only stock what i plan to drink on a given night.
this new contract is the first 12 months of decent pay and semi-security that we have enjoyed in a while. and regarding job title, FYI, my visa will say "journalist" but that's not what I do. More like scientific consultant for matters of wildlife biology and conservation in SE Asia.
