that at bat by descalso looked wretched. so it seems all of the young position players are trying give moz a reason to send them back to memphis. if this keeps up i imagine la russa will be arguing for some veteran. who is the randy winn of utility infielders?

"who is the randy winn of utility infielders?"
Aaron Miles

Has Booby Valentine said anything remotely insightful in the past 2 1/2 hours?

ah, but he's taken. i guess we'll have to wait until the dodgers release him. are they even allowed to do that under their mlb stewardship?
seriously, i think the young bench guys are all playing pretty decent defense, but all have looked pretty bad on offense, often enough, that i would guess they're working their way onto la russa's shit list.

quick! someone got the oxygen for berkman.

That's inexcusable. Walking Descalso.

not that they could make him pay. in hindsight that inside pitch, whether intentional or not, seemed to have caused molina to back away from the plate a bit.

bright side, i think salas is looking really good, too. so suddenly, with the addition of sanchez and salas, and with sidelining franklin for boggs, our bullpen is looking like it could become a big strength.

Chapman should be picking Yadi's elbow skin out of his teeth right now.

Boggs still scares me. Not as much as he used to. But he still scares me.

yeah, maybe. was that valentine who just commented that boggs's fastball "comes in straight"?

That'll be him. The same guy who wanted to send 48-year-old Miggy Cairo against the catcher with the best arm in baseball.

well, i gotta agree with bobby v, then, 'cause i think his fastball comes in straight. i will look into those pitch fx stats and see if the 14 inch break on boggs's fastball might not just be the difference between release point and point at which the ball crosses the plane of the plate.

Dusty showed his true colors on that one. He couldnt let this pissing match go. I dont know if anything happend that I missed this series because I didnt get a chance to watch much of it. However I dont recall the Cardinals doing anything. Chapman was throwing at Molina. I dont know if Molina did something on the HR to egg it on or not but TLR will resond to this. Molina is one of his boys. He hits in the lower part of the lineup that likely couldnt have burn a hard thrower like Chapman. Dusty also knew that TLR wouldnt risk screwing up the 9th inning by getting his closer tossed.
Good 9th inning by Boggs, BTW.

My guess is Jonny Gomes gets plunk next time around. My personal pick would be bouncing one off of Cuto's helmet.

No, and it started early by saying the Cardinals don't have anyone good defensively outside of Pujols, Molina and Rasmus. Theriot and Berkman are not very good, but Matt Holliday is, and both Descalso and Punto are on the roster because of their defense. What an idiot.
As for saying that Boggs throws a fastball without movement, he's apparently thinking of Motte.

You're giving Valentine too much credit. I doubt that he was "thinking" of anything.
I'd bet that Bruce has a different take on whether or not Boggs' fastball had any movement on it.

not sure if you've been watching, tk, but motte's fastball has picked up a little bit of movement this season.

Motte is doing well, moving the fastball. Still not much commitment to anything but the fastball (though he is trying the occassional offspeed pitch). I would love to see him really develop a reliable changeup... With his velocity, he could have a 15-20 mph difference between the two, and if he could locate them both? That's almost unhittable.

Maybe. I'll go back and check the game logs from last season later today.

Max, everyone's fastball comes in straight.
