Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said after Tuesday's 7-5 win that he liked the looks of that night's lineup, apparently enough that it's back on Wednesday in a rare case of Cards' lineup repetition. The Cards have used 28 lineups in 31 games.

Descalso made a couple of really nice defensive plays last night. One on a dive to his left while playing second and another on a short hop while at third.

My fear is that they are overexposing their bench. These guys could be looking like better players then they are because they are unknown to the league. Once the league gets a grip on them we will be up a creek. That is what happend alot in the past. Thurston, Barden, Barton ect.... I hope that players like Descalso, Greene, Craig and even Punto dont end up being like that.

This game is too goddamn close to let Stanton reach into the stands like that. Anyone that brazen from the visiting team ought to lose the ball, his glove, his hat, and maybe even a couple of teeth.

We're having our annual "Winter Encore in May" this week. It'll stay this way until about mid-June, then we'll get about 72 hours of spring, followed by eight weeks of 90-degree heat and 95-percent humidity. Then on Labor Day, it's time to get out the snow shovels from the garage again.

The Cardinals can't bitch about a game in which they make four errors, but I'm not sure Sanchez even gives up the dinger to Stanton if Davidson gets the call right on Hanley. Sanchez got spooked. You can't make a better pitch than that 0-2.
Umpiring tends to even out over 162 games, but you tend to only remember the calls that go against you.
Josh Johnson tomorrow. Any chance there's rain in the forecast?

I thought the play was kind of shitty. Molina had the runner out by force-out while the runner batista was a ways up the the baseline. I thought him sliding was uncalled for. Molina was even up the firstbase line, out of the direct path. It is alittle different then a play at second base. A second base play take place in front of the fielder. A play like that at the plate leaves the catcher blind to contact.
However Hanley wasnt the player to make the hard slide. It was Batista. Hanley was just doing the sportsman like thing and checking on Molina. He hung around the plate after the play just to check on him. Molina didnt want to hear it because he was likely mad at himself. Hanley was walking away when Carp called him out. Carp likely was more pissed that he was having a bad outing. He can be a dick. Carninals fans want to act like it is a good quality but if he was on another team we would call him a douchebag.

It's a rare play, because if there's a home-to-first double play attempt, the throw home usually beats the guy coming from third before he can slide. But your point is valid. It's one thing to take out a guy at second who's facing you, and it's another to go after a catcher who's exposed himself when he's throwing to first.
I can't figure out either why Carpenter started chirping at Hanley. It didn't look like Hanley did anything even remotely unreasonable. And Hanley doesn't really have a reputation for starting shit.

Hanley was holding up his arms like he didnt get what Carp was bitching about. I dont know what Carp was bitching about. Like I said Carp is a dick. If he played for the Reds we would be wanting him plunked.
