Re: 05/10 gamecrap

"Once you watch a game in HD, you'll never want to go back. "

That's what I said about business class and 5-star hotels.   (wink)

Re: 05/10 gamecrap

I wonder if Pettini will have the grapefruits to drop Theriot from the leadoff spot. He's now hitting .278/.328/.310. He's 2-for-his-last-22. He's drawing one walk for every 20 plate appearances.

I don't know. Maybe their walkup gate suffered, but there were entire sections that were almost empty, which to me indicates none of those tickets were even sold. In any event, if I paid $40 apiece back in February for a pair of baseball ducats, I wouldn't be willing to eat them so I could watch a basketball game on TV, especially a stupid National Bounceyball Association brickfest with guys beating the crap out of each other.
Enjoyed watching the lowlights from the Lakers' exit from the playoffs the other day. As the saying goes, if you can't beat 'em, fuck 'em up so they won't get past the next round.

"Wanting to" and "having to" are two different propositions, Max.
The three things I've learned I can't live without are cable TV, a dishwasher and a garbage disposal. My dad has none of the three. When we visit him, I tell my son it's like going back to Medieval times.

Re: 05/10 gamecrap

I dont have a dishwasher unless you count my wife but I will agree the other 2 are handy.  HD TV is just so clear.  I watch it in standard when there is no other option.  That is quit often.  However HD is so awesome that it is worth listening to the Cubs broadcasters.  It is that good.

Chicago is mighty distracted by the Bulls right now and the Cubs having such a lethargic, boring team is combining to make them an afterthought. The Bulls haven't been this exciting since 1998, which was Jordan, Pippen and Jackson's last run. Check it out:

On May 6, 1998, Kerry Wood threw his 20-strikeout game. That night the Bulls played Game 2 of the semifinals against Charlotte. Attendance at Wrigley? 15,758.

May 19, 1998, the Bulls play Indiana in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals. 30,000 show up at Wrigley that night.

May 27, the Bulls host the Pacers in Game 5. The Cubs play at Wrigley that day, getting just 19,000 to show up.

May 31, Bulls-Pacers in Game 7. Cubs-Braves play a night game. Attendance: 29,285. Attendance for the previous day's afternoon game: 39,817.

Remember, this was 1998 when Sosa hit 66 and the Cubs won 90 games and got into the playoffs. Jordan was more important that spring, and we're seeing it again in 2011 with Derrick Rose being more important than Darwin Barney.

F*ck you!

My list of essentials and near essentials

1. hot water (even in the tropics its not a pleasant thought to come back after dark, wet and dirty, and face a ground water shower).

2. freedom from mosquitoes and flies when I sleep ("confidence" is the knowledge that in that moment you are drifting off to sleep that a fly will not come along and land on the tip of your nose.  "comfort" is waking in the morning without feet, ankles, arms, hands, and face covered in mosquito bites and a dim memory of spending a restless night fighting them off).

Luxury items: an electric fan . . . OK, electricity for that matter.

So after all that if the project comps business class seats and 5-star hotels while in town, I'll take 'em.

Re: 05/10 gamecrap

my recollection was it might have been about 3 weeks for me to be back to medium and maybe 6 to be all better.  but his condition started a while back already, so i don't know how to reckon that, or how much variation there is in recuperation time.  also, mine was on my abdomen from navel and then circling around to over the kidneys.  sounds like it's much more dangerous, and maybe more painful, on the face.

Wasn't the weather really lousy that day?

Age might be a factor, too. I assume it's tougher to covalesce when you're 66 or however old TLR is. Let's hope he's back soon. I'm already missing arguing with my friends who are Red Sox fans who insist La Russa is the worst thing to happen to baseball since beer sales after the 7th inning were banned at Fenway.

That is what you get for leaving America.  As much as I love the wood I never was a big fan of camping and I hate the outdoors this time of year.  It is sticky hot, the bug will carry you off and I cant freaking breath.  I grew up in the woods.  Our house was set back into th woods and I was out in it all the time.  Still I have never actually been camping.  I like air conditioning and running water.
