In furtherance of an earlier post by Windy, I think I feel myself starting to pull for the Padres. Ludwick and Eckstein help sell the cause, but another important factor is a comparative lack of complete jerks. I could be happy for the Rockies if they get there and advance. It won't be the end of the world if the Phillies dominate, except that it's so predictable. Except for Rolen and Edmonds, the reds are just way too irritating.

At the risk of bringing about the end of the world, I agree with Max. I personally hope Dusty and the Reds get swept by a combined run total of 48-2. I just can't bring myself to root for Bobby Cox, although I don't think there's anyone on that team that specifically annoys me other than Bobby. The Phillies are the Phillies. I think I'm rooting for whoever comes from the West.

I hope the Braves beat the Padres in the NLCS. I am not a Bobby Cox hater. I wouldnt mind seeing the Padres in the world series either. Anyone but the Phillies and Reds.

I'm not a Cox hater either but the Pads are my first choice and the Reds are my second. My reason for the first is for the same reasons Max gave. In fact, I've been pulling for the Pads ever since the Ludwick trade.
My reasons for the second are because of Rolen, Walt, and Edmonds (who apparently is through for the season).
The Phillies are my last choice and always will be. I started hating the Phils in 1953 and, even though some have their ex-players are among my all time favorite players and human beings, I've never stopped hating the team. It's not rational but hating people you don't really know inevitably irrational. It may have something to do with the fans. In fact it may have a lot to do with their fans.
In a Yankmees/Phillies WS, I'll be pulling for Payrod and company.

If it ends up Yankees/Phillies again, I'll be pulling for a meteorite to hit the stadium.

I wish I'd thought of that option, but I guess it wouldn't have made my point about how I feel about the Phillies.

My disdain for the Team The Invented Baseball went to outright hatred when Johnny Cueto kicked Jason LaRue in the face. I'll never root for the Reds again. Ever.
In the NL, I'll go with whoever wins the West, hopefully the Padres because of the Eckstein/Ludwick factor. I like Adrian Gonzalez. I find myself appreciating players who just shut up and play the game more these days. And Bud Black seems like a decent fellow.
Texas is probably the team I'll root for in the AL. I'm not sure why. Probably because it's the team I know the least about. But any team other than the Yankees would be fine.

I have a very hard time getting over the Cueto business myself but I frankly am more upset with the jellyfish response the MLB gave to that conduct. It still doesn't make it any easier, however, to think of Cueto on a championship team.
I like Bud Black also, despite his having been part of the '85 Royals.

I think it is crap that Larue is still feeling the effects of the kick and Cueto got off with a slap on the hand. Then went off to some island when the teams met again.

I vote for the meteor too! I'd really hate to see another east coast series. It's just getting boring. Now if Tulo, CarGo & company could pull off a miracle I'd be on cloud 9 - but I'm not holding my breath (nervous) The performance put on last night may need to be what I remember till spring (wink)

Why do I get the feeling that if you gave him the Yogi quote, "Baseball is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical." that he would agree?
Is there something about getting hit in the face with foul tips?

Now I'm going to have to look up "The Wit and Wisdom of Mickey Rivers" on line.

Mickey Rivers' Words Of Wisdom About Baseball
"Me and George and Billy are two of a kind."
-Baseball player Mickey Rivers, on his relationship with George Steinbrenner and Billy Martin
"My goals are to hit .300, score 100 runs, and stay injury-prone."
-Mickey Rivers
"Out of what, a thousand?"
Mickey Rivers, responding to teammate Reggie Jackson's claim he had an IQ of 160.
"Pitching is 80% of the game and the other half is hitting and fielding"
-Mickey Rivers
"No wonder you're all mixed up. You got a white man's first name, a Spanish man's second name and a black man's third name."
-Mickey made this comment to Reginald Martinez Jackson in July of 1977
"You'd better stop readin' and writin' and start hittin' ! "
-Mickey Rivers' quip back at Reggie Jackson when Jackson told Rivers, in front of reporters, that he should learn how to read and write
"I'm going to double my limit."
-Mickey Rivers' response to a 1975 interview question asking him how many bases he was going to steal that season.
"I was eating too well and getting too much rest. I take my old lady dancing every night now. Doin' the bump keeps your legs in shape."
-Mickey Rivers' response to a 1975 interview question of why he started playing better
"He's so ugly. When you walked by him, your pants wrinkle. He made fly balls curve foul."
-Mickey Rivers on former Major Leaguer Danny Napoleon's looks
"He is so ugly he should have to wear an oxygen mask."
-Mickey Rivers on teammate Cliff Johnson's looks
"I might have to commute. You know, left field, DH, wherever."
-Mickey Rivers
"The first thing you do when you get out to center field is put up your finger and check the wind-chill factor."
-Mickey Rivers
"The wind was blowin' about 100 degrees"
-Mickey Rivers' response to the wind in the outfield at Chicago's Comiskey Park
"I was brought up in Florida, so there isn't much difference between playing there and playing here. The climax are about the same."
-Mickey Rivers on playing in Texas
"He was lost out there. He was the Lost Mohegan."
-Mickey Rivers on a teammate who just played his first game
"I felt alone out there, like I was on a desert island. I felt like Gilligan."
-Mickey Rivers' response to playing left field for the first time
"I've been doing my 2 1/2 miles every day and I've gained 2 pounds. My stomach is getting smaller but my butt's getting bigger."
-Mickey Rivers in response to the Texas Rangers training methods of 1981
"I like playing on this team. We actually been doin' real good. Got a different mix here. Most important thing is you gotta keep pickin' up in paces. That's why we're playing contentious play. We got top names, guys can still hit in the majors, guys been out of the game hittin' the ball, shockin' it. Don't have no old, old guys. Not sayin' they don't get a good job done. Fact is, they've been vice versa. So that's incentive right there. It's been a plus."
-Mickey Rivers commenting on his teammates in the SPBL in 1989
"I threw about 90% fastballs and sliders, 50% fastballs and 50 % sliders...I'm starting to sound like Mickey Rivers."
-John Butcher, former Texas Rangers Pitcher
"These guys are so old they're eligible for meals on wheels."
-Mickey Rivers commenting on the age of Texas Rangers teammates Bill Stein and Larry Bittner
"That felt good. I hadn't hit off a lefty in two months."
-Mickey Rivers' post game comment after hitting a double off of Boston Red Sox right handed pitcher Bob Stanley

I'm pulling for the Rays.
If anyone is following along, David Price and Evan Longoria took Tampa "fans" to task for not showing up last night.
And Stu Sternberg is really getting the fans excited by saying payroll will be cut next year.
I have doubts about the long-term viability of a franchise in Tampa, but I have to agree with SI's Joe Sheehan, who pointed out that getting to the damn stadium there is a lot of trouble. People will watch good baseball in bad facilities (Metrodome), but they aren't going to drive way off the beaten path for it.

Did either one of them say "I've got a fever, and the only prescription is More Cowbell?"

On another note - boy would it be nice to see Tulo & Cargo in STL with Pujols & Holliday! Boy am I dreaming or what?!

Hey, it never hurts to ask. Maybe the Rockies could throw Ubaldo into your trade to make it a little more appealing.

Evan Longoria? Isn't she the chick that used to get soaking wet in a short dress while chugalugging a Pepsi?
I think she'd be a great pick-up for most of us but I doubt she could help the Cards chances in 2011.

You never know how well those guys would hit if they had to use the same baseballs as everyone else.

Well, that does it. I'm all in for the Padres now
Weird to see the Rockies crumble, after being so hot, and frankly the Giants still carry the stench of Scary Bonds IMO.
