Cardinals manager Tony La Russa indicated Sunday that Yadier Molina's sore right knee is becoming a bigger issue
Perfect. I bet 28-year-old catchers with 6,500 innings on their knees that are already sore age well. I look forward to Mozeliak ripping up his contract this fall and giving him a five-year deal.

Is it time for Yadi to move to first base?

I can't see any point in his playing another game the rest of this season, at first or anywhere else. And starting next year they need to have him on a schedule of playing two and resting one from the day the season opens, assuming that he doesn't already have to have surgery.

Where'd I put that Johnny F. Cueto voodoo doll?

Aren't the Cardinals lousy with catchers in the minor leagues? Anderson? Pagnozzi? The kid who got called up from Springfield because he had better access to transportation?
And I believe Gary Bennett will be available.

Yeah Anderson and Pagz are ready to take over part time duty. LaRue is a likable guy but he has no use on the roster when he can be replaced for $400,000. TLR is going to use Molina untill his legs fall off at the knees anyway. Maybe one of those two can even replace Molina and we can get some vaule out of a guy that doesnt really help the team as much as the "homers" like to think.

I like your thinking, but Mozeliak has already said Molina's locked in for next season. I think they're going to be paying him $7.5 million, too.

I think this might be one of those You'll-Miss-Me-When-I'm-Gone type of deals, AP. We tend to forget about his ability to negate the other team's base stealers because we're so used to him, but there's still no one better right now at throwing out runners.

When that's the only thing he can do well (and there aren't enough base stealers where it'd make a big difference), I don't think I'll miss him. After watching this team for 150 games, I just want players with Scott Rolen's baseball IQ. Molina doesn't have that.

Yadi gets $5.25M next year and $7M club option ($0.75M buyout) in 2012. I would like to see then start giving one of the younger guy somes time so they are not so dependant on Molina. It is not smart to give him another contract with the Cardinals. A catcher with his kind of workload has a short lifespan. I would like to even see them trade him next offseason if one of the other catcher prove to be worth playing time.

Molina goes nowhere until the Pujols contract is resolved. Remember how Pujols felt after they traded Polanco. I can only imagine what it would be like if they traded Molina.

I agree about that. Looking at his stats I cant believe that he has had this good of year at the plate. He seems to be a clog in the lineup. I would trade him this offseason just because he is Pujols' friend and with any luck they resign him this winter. Still he is over valued and if they can get good return out of him they should. A catcher that plays 160 games a year has to have a steep decline rate.

Do other players take things as personal when their buds are traded off the team like Pujols?

What in hell was Molina doing in the line-up tonight? Trying to keep sharp for the post-season?

"Trying to keep sharp for the post-season?"
Is Dewitt selling the team?

Maybe he will sell it to Mark Cuban.

He has played in 136 games this year. There are 11 to go and his career high for games was last year with 140. 130 of those games he started as catcher and he is almost 100 innings ahead of the next highest catcher. Talk about abuse.

It looks like it took a doctor to tell them what common sense should have told them 3 weeks ago.

Stop thinking about this rationally.
