Re: Washington high school doesnt support breast cancer

"But instead of the idea being welcomed by the Washington Officials Association, the group received the exact opposite response it was hoping for, as the association threatened the group with a two-game ban and the possibility of losing two game checks.

"They chose not to ask for permission, not to go the right route," WOA commissioner Todd Stordahl told KING 5 at the time. "It sends the wrong message to kids that are playing the game. 'If they broke the rules why can't I do the same?'"

I can see the commissioner's point. You start wearing pink whistles in front of the kids and donate game checks to support breast cancer, and the next thing you know, those same kids are getting behind philanthropic causes on their own and grow up to be compassionate, caring adults. And who wants that?

Somebody is on a power trip.  Even if the commissioner is offended that he left out and premission wasnt sought it still takes alot of nerve to do what he is doing.  A good leader understands that not everything has to be front page news.

I don't think anybody supports breast cancer.

Re: Washington high school doesnt support breast cancer

While I can understand the commissioners point of not wanting the refs to just "DO" stuff without at least asking for approval, I think this was misplayed.

If you have an employee who's taking all the aluminum cans from a company's garbage, and recycling it for money without permission, you can probably fire him. If he's giving the proceeds to orphan shelters, you're an asshole if you do it. Same deal. You should take these guys aside and have a chat, "Listen, this is a great cause, and we'd support you if you asked us, but you didn't ask us. You get a pass here. You're not doing anything malicious, but that doesn't excuse you not clearing this with us. In the future, tell us, or we will have to implement fines/suspensions. We have a process for this, we need to use it."

Do that, and all is well. Instead Commissioner hits the fan, then says and does some things that only Clinton "They were his dogs" Portis would agree with.

Fail.

Except I wouldnt fire someone because they were digging threw the trash to get cans.  Even if the money was going in there own pocket.  If it annoyed my I would just use one of the cans as a spit cup for a day.
