Laird Done

For the second time this season, a Cardinals player gets his hand broken.

This is bad news. Yadier Molina is hitting around .330/.370/.480 and he's hitting this well because of the breaks he's getting. Laird made La Russa and Duncan feel OK with him sitting. If they run him into the ground again, Molina will be as useless as he was in the middle of last season.

Speaking of which, . . . a triple for Molina???  Wish I had seen that.

Re: Laird Done

I didnt know this news.  This is a bigger deal then it will be made out to be.  Laird was a very good backup.  I spoke against the signing but I admitt to being impressed with how it was working out.  He was good behind the plate and could hit alittle.  Both Cruz and Anderson are sucking in triple A.  Like you said I doubt Molina get a rest and his batting will suffer.  Cruz will likely get the call instead of Hall of Fame hopefull Anderson but I expect the Cardinals to dip into the backup catcher market.  They might even call somebody who is out of the game like they did with Kelly Stinnett.  I wonder what it would take to get Bengie Molina off his lawn mower.

I am not sure who long it will take for a hand to heal but I would be temped to add Freese or Laird to the 60 man DL if it is close to that.  they will have to clear room on the 40 man if they dont fill the position from within.

Re: Laird Done

Apparently it's just a broken finger, but he's still going on the DL.

La Russa and Duncan have to resist the temptation to start Molina 13-14 games in a row like they have been. He's one of the team's biggest weapons and they'll need him to keep it up while Berkman heals and Pujols continues sucking.

I heard it but I didn't see it. I guess it was originally scored a double with Yadi advancing to third on the throw home, and they changed it too a triple.

Re: Laird Done

I gather he ultimately scored on that play.  Triple, with a run on the E.  It must have been an epicly bad throw.

It was. The throw was to third, not home, overshot the third baseman and deflected off the stands into left field.
