This might be a good chance for Carp to make another strong start. With the size of this ballpark he might be able to get away with alittle more.

"With the size of this ballpark he might be able to get away with alittle more."
The judges also would have accepted "With this shitty Padres lineup ..."

Or not. Brad Hawpe v. Cardinals - 2 HR. Brad Hawpe v. Rest of NL - 2 HR

Greene has to put the ball in play in that situation. He just has to.

In all sincerity, would anyone else be bummed if once Holliday comes back the outfield is Holliday-Jay-Berkman most of the time?

Yes. Jon Jay proved last year he isn't a starter.

The standard 1-5-4 double play ...

Yes. TK. For some reason he has a throbbing, Florida-sized, man-crush on Rasmus.
But that aside, who might we get for Rasmus in a trade, and would it make the team better this year?

Well, that's that.

If it had ended right there, his performance would have been considered very strong: 7.2 IP, 6 H, 0BB, 6 K, 1 ER. Alas.

Actually, I think he's just a good player with good secondary plate skills and the minor league track record to back it up. Jon Jay is a good contact hitter.
I forget, though: is Jay still a Bo Hart clone? I can't remember what position you're taking on it this week.

Why would anyone want Rasmus in a trade? After all, if Jay is the better player and they cost the same, wouldn't teams rather have him?

Matt Holliday can't come back soon enough.

i thought i opened the 'dumbest shit you ever heard' thread. it's simple: nothing against jay, but rasmus is a lock for rookie of the year, he is already a perennial all-star, and his first-ballot ticket to cooperstown is just a formality at this point.

You clearly have no argument.
Moving along.

The concession prize for today's game is the complete game loss for Carp, a rarity in today's game.

See, I thought that's what we do, mischaracterize our friends' statements and then make fun of them. Did I misunderstand that?

I apologize to everyone else for re-igniting this argument. Didn't mean to.
This is what happens when you don't do enough damage to a good pitcher when he's struggling early. Once Latos figured out he didn't need a curveball anymore, he was brilliant.

I hear Brennaman shouting, so I'm going to assume the Reds just won the pennant. Check that. Bruce just tied the game in the seventh inning with a seeing eye single.

Hell I don't mind having that argument. It just depends on how you view the two players going forward. Rasmus will always be Jim Edmonds-like streaky, except his highs won't be as high (Edmonds could carry a team for a week or two at a time), and his lows can be hidden by an ability to still get on base.
And to me, Jay looks like a really good fourth outfielder. He doesn't (and never has) have the plate discipline to get him through slumps and I felt that he got way too exposed last summer. I believe he struck out in 17 percent of his plate appearances last year, which is way too much for someone who relies on contact.
Plus, you can only hit 60 percent of your balls on the ground for so long before they start finding gloves.

i assumed artie was talking about the argument where you and i hurl insults at each other, tk. coulda been wrong though.
