I completely agree. In fact, I think I said a couple of months back that in some ways Heyward was a better fit in Chicago than in St. Louis for exactly that reason. He's a very good all-around player that's a better fit in a lineup that already has other offensive talent. St. Louis needs an offensive centerpiece and Heyward isn't that guy.
Of course, it doesn't sound like we're going to sign "that guy" either.I don't think a rightfielder playing centerfield makes him a good fit. But it's not going to matter. Heyward is going to spend the entire year on the DL after overdosing on the toxic fumes of the goat shit that emanated from his mouth yesterday.
Love the new avatar.
Thank you. Almost makes me want to have another child, for the sole purpose of raising him so his first words will be "Fuck the Cubs."

I think we need to consider the possibility that Heyward chose the Cubs because he gets paid to be the man, but doesn't have to worry about actually performing like the man. He's a good offensive player, but not a great one, and everything that makes Heyward a great player doesn't show up in stat sheets. On a Cubs team with Rizzo, Bryant and Schwarber potentially hitting 30 home runs, Heyward doesn't have to worry about being an elite offensive talent. If he stayed in St. Louis, he would've been counted on to reach a level he knows he's not really capable of.

I agree with that. Mlb network suggested today that fowlers might be back in chicago because teams are shying away because of draft pick compensation. Also that the cubs could trade an outfielder to move heyward to a corner spot. That seem counter productive in signing heyward. I hope heyward play horrible cf and sends most his days running balls through the gap and into the weeds. Maybe that is just me being vindictive.

3x he pussed out. I think he start to the season in stl factored in as well. He was in the spot light and took some heat.

Yes, yes. Feel the power of the dark side.
I've heard Soler's name mentioned most often in trade talk.

They would surely be trading for pitchers but outfield wise does stumpy (cant spell his name) fowler and heyward strike you as a better overall deal then stumpy, fowler and soler? Price tag included I dont think so.
And to be honest heyward would have been an improvement for the cards because he is a known quantity but piscotty looked very promising.
Maybe im just tryijg to convince myself 2016 isnt going to suck.

Also wondering if this idea that the market plays down to the cardinals level is a pipe dream or reality.

I'm perfectly content going into the season with an outfield of Holliday, Grichuk and Piscotty, with the obvious concerns about durability. As has been stated repeatedly, they still need to improve their offense, if that's their outfiend trio. If Holliday is amendable to a move to first, as Fors has suggested, they could go out and get Upton or Gordon. Gordon really doesn't give them much of a boost offensively, however.
Or they could address offense with an upgrade at first by signing Davis, and hope that his 2014 season was an outlier, something with which I don't agree completely.
The Reds have supposedly made Bruce and Frazier available via trade. There will be a lot of interest in Frazier, and if the Cardinals acquire him they could move Carpenter to first and have him play third, or they could move Frazier to first. You could move Piscotty to left and Holliday to first for Bruce, who would be fine defensively, but his offensive numbers have been awful the last two years. And you wonder about any power hitter coming from that joke of a ballpark in Cincinnati. How many of those home runs Frazier and Bruce have hit at GABP are flyouts in a park with real dimensions?

Frazier has been traded to the White Sox.
I think Derrick Goold has said before the Cardinals and Reds don't really speak with each other. I don't think the Reds would be interested in helping the Cardinals out in any capacity.

Moss figures into things as well. Both at first and the corner outfield positions. I think there is a good chance he hits 15 to 20 hrs in 350 to 450 at bats.
I prefer holliday at first full time if he can play the position because he is a upgrade offensively there and whoever plays lf is an upgrade defensively their.
If they trade i hope they target a 3rd baseman and move carp back to second. Wong can be featured in the trade
Offline
C. Molina
1b. Holliday/moss/adams
2b. Wong/new guy
3b. Carp
Ss. Peralta
Rf. Piscotty/moss
Cf. Grichuk
Lf. Upton or moss if upton isnt signed
Second option
C. Molina
1b.holliday/adams/moss
2b. Carp/new guy
3b. Unknown 3b through trade
Ss. Peralta
Rf. Piscotty/moss
Cf. Grichuk
Lf. Moss/holliday
Also would be opposed to a ss aquired through trade. Move peralta to 3rd and carp to second

I know this, and after careful analysis, I've given him the consideration he deserves, which is almost none at all.
In all sincerity. I recall reading something after the season about him being hurt or playing with pain. Which makes me even more concerned that Moz traded for a guy who was injured.

The verb you're looking for is "paroled."
Seriously, how much is that team going to suck? They have to trade Chapman now, because there won't be any games for him to save.

And here I thought Joe Maddon is supposed to be a bright guy. He doesn't understand the concept of a lottery. Hey, Joe. I'll help you out. It's not a game of chance when you buy all the fucking tickets.
Fuck Joe Maddon. Fuck Heyward. Fuck the Cubs.

And here's another thing... The Cubs have now made themselves the front running favorites for the Central. A spot that St. Louis has had to deal from for almost the entirety of this century to this point...
Let's see if they can live up to the hype they put on themselves.
Edit to correct my inability to type "now" correctly.

I believe it was known he was coming off a hip injury. He is still a 20hr threat.

Eh, I think the "yoke of expectations" dynamic is overrated. Let's face it. The Cubs have a very good, very young team. Unless they're beset by catastrophic injuries, they're going to win the division next season, and we ought to brace ourselves for the probability they're going to win at least one World Series in the next five years.
And whenever a hole in their lineup arises, they're going to paper over it with money. If it comes down to a battle of money, and it always will, the Cubs are going to win.
It's global socioeconomics, circa 1989. They're the United States. The Cardinals are the Soviet Union. They can and will spend the Cardinals into oblivion, and there's not much the Cardinals are going to be able to do about it.
Fuck 'em, though.

Molina had a 2nd surgery on his thumb. Apparently it wasn't healing after the first procedure.

Not to fear. The Cardinals' medical staff says he'll be ready for Opening Day.
That would be the same medical staff that were supposed to fix the problem the first time they operated.
On the bright side, when he returns after the All-Star Break it will be just like we traded for an All-Star.

I figure at the All-Star break my priority will be reading previews in advance of another 7-6 season for the ASU football team.
The quarterback position is up for grabs ....

I wonder if Mike Martz would've ever had any interest in coaching at ASU. I always thought he would've been a tremendous college coach.

There are probably too many similarities to Dennis Erickson to suit ASU. And I don't know how much energy he'd be willing to devote to recruiting, which is the one thing Todd Graham seems to do well - at least in comparison to his game management. If I were a college head coach secure enough in my job, I'd consider bringing Martz in as my OC, the way Saban has employed Lame Kiffin. Martz would probably enjoy all the things he could try with a Pac 12 offense.
