I hadn't seen that.  Now it is perfectly clear what Mo was talking about.

Thanks.

Hey.  Anybody got the word on the Mike Schildt firing?  Obviously we'll never get anything like the truth out of Mo.

Same here except that there's no need to tell me when they quit, if they ever do.  I've had it with college and professional sports.

Not that they will miss me.

He’s not going to rock the boat. He’s just going to find another section. I just think it’s horseshit he has to do so.

Sloppy reading on my part.  I initially thought you were talking about Bob and seeking an opinion on how he should cope with the situation..  I also thought it was his only option.  When I read it more carefully the first time, I realized it wasn't Bob you were talking about.  Then, on another reading, I realized there were other options.

On rereading, it was obvious that what you had written was very clear and the misreading was entirely on my end for jumping to the conclusion you were seeking my advice and making the message fit.

As far as having an opinion on the matter, I really don't know enough about the teacher, his history with dealing with the athletic department, or the nature of the course to have one.

Uh oh.  Al just said he would have to question Yadi’s call on the HR pitch to Yelich by Helsley.

BTW, I had a college roommate from Tallequah and they were pronouncing it correctly.

Ok Mags, you’re my best resource for a question like this. Bob just forwarded to me an email one of his teammates received. Thank goodness it wasn’t Bob or I might be spending a night in a Memphis jail.

Rhodes requires all incoming students to take a 3 semester class: Search or Life. Life is a religious studies class. Search is similar, but it’s more philosophy (Homer, Socrates, Vergil, etc). Once you choose, you have to complete 3 semesters of that class.

One of Bob’s teammates is taking Life. They just did their schedule requests for next semester. The kid chose a section offered at a time that didn’t conflict with his other classes or his football obligations. Tonight, he received an email from the professor “thanking him for his interest,” but suggesting he take a different class (he can’t) or a different section because “in my experience, athletes, particularly football players, don’t do well in my class because their time obligation to their sport makes it difficult to succeed in the class.”

That’s horseshit. The kid has to take the class. I have no idea if another section works with his schedule, but it seems the kid is in a much better position to understand his time obligations. This guy just seems to have a hard on for athletes and doesn’t want them in his class. But if the kid stands his ground, it seems the professor has a built in excuse by saying “I told him he might not do well.”  I’d be pissed if I was that kid’s dad.

Sorry for being slow to reply.  I wanted to think about what I might say that could be relevant and then couldn’t find the post.

Since I don’t know the prof, I am shooting in the dark and should be taken with a grain of salt.

First, I would strongly recommend that kid not involve the coach or the athletic department at this time.  Let me get on my desktop tomorrow and give you my thoughts.  I actually do have some.

Yup. But he hit it hard.

Must have.  With his speed they wouldn't have gotten 2 otherwise.

Yeah, the catcher with the best catching ERA in the last 15 years is the problem.

McLaughlin been out of his mind this week. After Yelich's second home run last night, he had the Cardinals leading instead of trailing, 9-6. He got the count wrong twice during Wong's at bat last inning. It's almost as if idiocy is contagious.

He pays almost no attention to the game.  He’s only thinking about how to talk about himself or how he can suck up to the bosses.

I guess you have to pay some attention to the game to know whether the count is 2 and 1 or 2 and 2.

Sorry.  Wrong thread.

When are they going to stop describing the Cardinals as having a runner in scoring position when Carpenter is at second?

Whenever one of out dogs reaches 11, I'm grateful for every day.  Right now we have a little Blue Heeler mix who was diagnosed with terminal cancer last July and given only a month to live.  It's a real joy to see her climb down from a bed and wag her tail every morning.  We are now at the point that we usually have to find something she'll eat after running through various options of dog food and treats throughout the day.  But she still has the strength to bark the mailman, any cat that is within view of a front window, any bobcat or deer that has come near the back fence, and any car that dares to come near turning into our cove.
I know she is in quite a bit of pain because of the way she begs for stomach rubs but tries to state out of the way (most of the time) of the other three who are much bigger.  Still, she seems to enjoy life too much to force the end.

I think McLaughlin is warm for Bader. He's not the only one. Even Sheryl, who watched the game with me on Wednesday, said, referring to Bader: "Ooooh. He's handsome."

Madison has a huge Bader crush.

I think I mentioned that Bob was coming home to surprise Michele and Madison for the weekend. There’s no doubt that no one misses Bob more than Michele, but I think the happiest to see Bob when he comes home is our younger dog. He’s a 90 pound mix of probably boxer and Rhodesian ridgeback. He was so excited to see Bob he ran and jumped at him from about 5 feet catching Bob off guard and knocking him on his ass. It was pretty damn funny and a whole lot of cute.

Dogs are awesome.

When Zach came home for Thanksgiving, one of his friends dropped him off. Baxter fancies himself as the ultimate guard dog, even though he's a total sissy. So when Baxter sees this dark, shadowy figure stepping out of an SUV, he charges out of the house.. until the moment he recognizes Zachary's scent and he starts slobbering over him like a tween girl starstruck by the member of a boy band.

Dogs ARE awesome.

Best thread of the year.  Forgive me if you are familiar with the story of Old Drum, but I don't think the legal profession ever had a finer hour than the summation provided by future U.S. Senator from Missouri, George Vest:

Carpenter’s extension runs thru 2021. They don’t have anyone likely to be here before that. Their best 3B prospect is only 18.

If you’re thinking of having DeJong move to 3B at some point, they don’t have a legitimate SS prospect in the system. The kid they drafted in the 1st round a couple of years ago has been a complete flop.

I agree completely, but Perez did go 4 for 4 last night.

Baby steps.

Perez is still young, so maybe there’s hope. But he’s also a kid who tested positive for PEDs before the draft and appears to have needed the help because so far he’s shown zero power.

He’s actually in his fourth season counting his first, which was a very short one.  But he’s only made it to Peoria.

He went 1 for 4 today.
